Psychology & Peace 2020

Peace Across Borders, Visible and Invisible

Psychology & Peace 2020 will be held on the campus of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. The meetings and housing will be in the modern and comfortable academic buildings and residence halls of the University. The Paper-in-a-Day event will begin at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28. The conference will begin at 8:00 a.m. Friday, May 29 and conclude at 12 noon on Sunday, May 31 (in time to make afternoon flights home.)

The purpose of Psychology & Peace 2020 is to explore the ways that psychology and psychologists from all specialties can contribute to peace and peacemaking. The program will include scholarly presentations, skill-building workshops, featured speakers, and participant-centered roundtable discussions. The Paper-in-a-Day event will be held May 28 in conjunction with the conference.

Registration Fee is All-Inclusive

The registration fee includes the conference fee, three nights housing, and food (five meals, reception, and breaks) during the conference. The all-inclusive early registration fee for Division 48 members starts at $380. Four housing options will be available depending on the participant’s preference. Student members of Division 48 who register for the full conference package will receive a $100 scholarship from Division 48. Call for Papers

Submission are due February 2. Notifications will be made March 2. Psychology & Peace 2020 will be May 29-31, 2020. Information for authors is at PeacePsychology.org/call-for-papers.

The conference program committee invites scholarly work on peace, conflict, and violence and on the related topics of justice and healing. A variety of formats will be considered. Non-traditional formats for the presentation of scholarly work are welcome. Diversity of scholarly perspectives, methodologies, and social-cultural contexts is encouraged. The following descriptions are provided to give guidance to authors and to suggest the breadth of topics which will be included in the conference.

Contributions might consider any of the following five contexts where peace, conflict and violence are studied and where peace, justice, and healing are pursued. For each of the five contexts the committee invites multiple types of scholarship

Types of Scholarship —

  • Empirical research — Quantitative and qualitative

  • Research synthesis — Reviews of literature

  • Practice — Descriptions and evaluations of intervention, training, or teaching programs

  • Phenomenological perspectives — First-person accounts of peace and conflict

  • Exploratory work and work in progress

Paper-in-a-Day

Paper-in-a-Day is an event to stimulate productive collaboration among early career researchers in psychology and peace. The two objectives of the day are (1) to complete a publishable scholarly project and (2) to lay the foundation for future collaborative work among the participants. The work of the Paper-in-a-Day teams will be presented as symposia on the program of Psychology & Peace. More information will be available October 1.
